I personally find a direct method of teaching extremely beneficial for students, where we focus and utilize target language and avoid translations as much as possible. With this method, I can focus a lot on speaking and incorporating vocabulary more than grammar, which, in my experience, results in students gaining greater confidence in their growth and progression. I prefer content that is interactive and engaging, based on what my students are familiar with. This allows me to gain my students' trust and develop a great relationship with them as I incorporate more challenging objectives, and take them outside of their comfort zones more successfully.
